Protocol: Connections

Adapted from

Connections a way for people to build a bridge from where they are to where they will be going.

It is a time for individuals to reflect —upon a thought, a story, an insight, a question, or a feeling that they are carrying with them into a group meeting and then connect it to the work they are about to do.

This protocol is appropriate for use at the beginning of an Elluminate or Skype meeting of the group/team.

This protocol should take place at the beginning of a meeting.
Explain to members the purpose-- a time to reflect and create a bridge from what they are thinking feeling to the work that they will be doing.

The “rules” for Connections are quite simple
• Speak if you want to.
• Don’t speak if you don’t want to.
• Speak only once until everyone who wants to has had a chance to speak.
• Listen and note what people say, but do not respond.

Each member can add their reflection one at a time while others listen.
The reflections can be in chat or audio.
When you are ready to begin say: Connections is open.
Set the timer for 5 to 7 minutes.
Before ending Connections ask if anyone has an additional comment.
End by saying: Connections is closed.
